When Everything Falls Apart: Faith at the Bottom of the Pit

For those in the hardest moment: you are not alone, and this is not the end.

There are moments in life when the ground disappears beneath your feet. A loss. A betrayal. A diagnosis. A separation. A crisis no one expected.

If you are in that moment right now, this text is for you.

The Bible Does Not Hide Pain

One of the most honest things about the Bible is that it does not pretend pain does not exist. The book of Job is a long cry from someone who lost everything and asks: "Why?"

The Psalms are full of laments, doubts and cries of despair. David, the man after God's own heart, wrote: "How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?"

If you feel that, you are in good company.

The Bottom of the Pit Has a Floor

Joseph was thrown into a pit by his own brothers. Then he was sold as a slave. Then he was unjustly imprisoned. He spent years in darkness.

And then God turned the entire story around. Joseph became the second most powerful man in Egypt. And what his brothers intended to use to destroy him, God used to save a nation.

Your deepest pit is not the end. It is part of the journey.

What Faith Does in the Hardest Moments

Faith does not promise that pain will not exist. It promises you will not be alone in it. There is an enormous difference between suffering alone and suffering accompanied.

When everything falls apart, faith is not an anesthetic. It is a hand that does not let go, even when you cannot feel it.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.

Psalm 23:4
